FAQ's

Is meditation religious ?

Meditation is believed to date back to “early man” times, prior to any religion as we know it. Although Meditation is a regular practice in many religions, many people meditate via a non religious (secular) route and see huge benefits.

There are also many types and styles of meditation, some which are of a religious practice and some aren’t.

Our classes at Clear Mind Meditation are delivered without religion.

Everybody is welcome.

What happens during the class?

When attending a meditation class you simply just need to turn up.

You have the option to sit on a chair or on the floor (on a meditation cushion) and will be seated for the full class (although you are welcome to stretch during the class if needed) Full guidance to the meditations will be given and there will be discussion time (where you can participate in if you feel comfortable) and opportunity to ask questions too.

If you are new to meditation and not used to sitting in a meditation position on the floor, it would be recommended to maybe start off sitting on a chair.

Meditation can often be confused with Yoga, however in meditation there isn't any flexibility or fitness required, so don't worry you won’t be asked to do the downward dog. As long as you can sit comfortably, you will be fine.

What do I wear?

There are no requirements for what you should wear, however it is recommended that you wear something you can sit comfortably in.

My mind has too many thoughts, is this really for me?

Everybody has 50,000 thoughts per day on average. The first measure of progress in meditation is noticing these thoughts. Meditation helps us accept these thoughts, work with them and build mental strength to find space and clarity in the mind. It could be said that the busier our mind is, the more we need meditation.

Do I need to meditate regularly?

There is no requirement to meditate on certain days/times, you can fit this in with your life. Meditation brings more benefits the more regularly you meditate rather than the length of time you meditate for. For example, even just 5-10 minutes of meditation per day, would be much better than meditating for 5 hours on a Sunday.

Can meditation help with anxiety and stress?

There has been scientific research since the 1950’s on how meditation physically changes the mind and body with many benefits including reducing anxiety and stress. If you experience any mental health condition or have any neuro diversity and are concerned about trying meditation then it is highly recommended you speak to your GP or mental health team / health provider.

I don't want to book a full course, do you not offer drop in classes?

All of our courses and meditations are written around a particular topic which is delivered over a full course, usually lasting 4-5 weeks. You will really see the benefit of investing your time to seeing through a full course and bringing regular meditation into your life. Also as our spaces are limited to keep the classes intimate we can't accept drop in's unfortunately.
